"My daughter's admission"

About: Causeway Hospital / Childrens Ward

(as a service user),

My daughter was recently admitted to the children’s ward via accident and emergency. We were admitted at midnight by a very welcoming smile and the offer of a much needed cup of tea by a nurturing night nurse called Mary - straight away she put myself and my daughter at ease.

My daughter was very emotional on admission and Mary was absolutely fantastic with her - speaking to her on her level and great eye contact. We were very unprepared for the admission and Mary done everything in her power to get us what we needed, she was absolutely fantastic that night and the following night.

For the days and nights that followed- again the care by staff and students was excellent- we had a student Alix who was being mentored by Donna and again the care was fantastic- it was lovely to see and hear the student / mentor dynamic between them both.

Claire the night nurse was a little gem, a real mammy type figure to the children and to us as parents. She was absolutely outstanding- her wealth of knowledge and experience was amazing. She answered all my questions, followed up blood results and urinalysis and really put me at ease.

Dear Cmax,

I am the Lead Nurse for Acute Paediatrics in the Trust and am really delighted to hear of you and your daughters experience in Causeway Children's Ward as you have described the personal and professional care we strive to deliver. Comments such as yours really do make a difference to staff and I will pass these on directly to those named and our ward Sister.

I hope that your daughter is home and recovered now

thank you

Peter Johnston
