"The receptionist was lovely, keeping us updated"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

This is an appreciation for the receptionist in A&E Wishaw general night shift.

My daughter was brought in by ambulance 1.40am, she had a coughing fit and was struggling to breathe. Ambulance was here straight away. The paramedics, who were incredible, knew straight away it was croup and gave her steroids and oxygen. 2 really amazing guys, can't praise them enough.

The hospital is seemingly understaffed and over worked but they are all still kind and doing their absolute best. We were eventually seen at 6.45am. Only 1 or 2 people had been called through to see a doctor so obviously really busy at the other end of the dept.

My daughter was perking up and then she was hungry, she was tired, she wanted her bed. The receptionist was lovely, keeping us updated, nothing was too much trouble, even gave my daughter some sweets. I just felt this lady was above and beyond with her kindness which was really appreciated to two worried parents.

Hi Nadine837,

This is a brilliant piece of feedback and is great to read. Thanks so much for taking the time to write in to us to pass on such kind compliments for the NHS staff who treated you.

From an ambulance service perspective, our staff will be really pleased to hear this. It sounds like they were extremely professional, helpful and reassuring at what must have been a really worrying time for you and your daughter.

If you'd like us to track down our two staff members to pass this on to them directly, if you could drop a short note to sas.feedback@nhs.scot with the name, address, date and time of call and we will be able to match those details to the crew on our system.

Thanks again for the warm words and I hope your daughter is recovering well and back to herself again.

All the best,
Mark

Dear Nadine837.

Thank you for sharing your experience in University Hospital Wishaw, Emergency Department.

What a worrying time it must have been for you all having your daughter unwell, I am glad she perked up after some treatment from the paramedics while waiting in the Emergency Department. Thank you for your understanding on the waiting times, as you imagine, we are under extreme pressure and I am so pleased you recognised the staff maintaining their kind and friendly presence while working.

I would be delighted to share your comments with the whole team who I am sure will take great pride in hearing your feedback. It will give them a real boost.

I hope your daughter is feeling all better now.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
