I cannot commend the ST team who have been supporting my child on his speech development journey.
He has been attending rounds of ST for 4 years now and most recently was recommended for an intensive round of sessions with the excellent Linda. She went above and beyond to help him with his most difficult sounds and focused twice weekly on achievable targets for him through play and practice but always with his best intentions at heart. Work and resources were individualised and differentiated to suit his learning styles and as well as that ST kept regular contact with me as I work full time so was unable to accompany him to each session. This was so reassuring and and extra effort that girth proves the worth of the Speech and Language department within the southern trust.
I have had two children with ST issues and two children without. I greatly appreciate the support my children have received over the past number of years.
Whilst I am grateful for each block of specialist help. It only comes in short bursts. Four blocks and then a wait of months before the next block. This is not in the child’s best interest as momentum is lost and I know practice makes perfect. Therefore I highly favour shorter wait times which is for the benefit of each child in need but also will make the work of the STs more effective
Increasing funding for speech and language therapy is crucial as it would not only reduce wait times for individuals in need, but also enhance the overall effectiveness and access to these essential services. Shorter wait times would allow for earlier intervention and support, ultimately improving outcomes and quality of life for those seeking therapy.
"More resource for excellent Speech Therapy"
