"Gave me the empathy and support I needed to keep going"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

At the end of April I was admitted to hospital with quite a nasty case of cellulitis in my left leg. I have never been ill in hospital before so was quite scared, anxious, and unfortunately in a lot of pain. When I was told I was being admitted to 2F Short stay, I was relieved, thinking I would be in 24-48 hours max, but due to the severity of the infection I ended up staying 6 nights. Whilst nothing about my illness was pleasant, the staff at 2F carried me through my ordeal. I have never met a more talented, energetic, optimistic, funny, caring and empathetic group of people with, what I consider, one of the most difficult jobs.

I want to note some special thanks to Shauna who cared for me over 2 evening shifts, and despite being incredibly busy, provided me with gentle care and attention. To Conor who cared for me over 2 day shifts, was incredibly attentive, personable - you are already a fabulous nurse and you have a great future ahead of you. To Damian who spotted me at my lowest ebb during my stay and gave me the empathy and support I needed to keep going - I will never forget your kindness. And finally to Jeanie who is a master at cleaning, it was so reassuring to see your excellent work.

To all the staff - I will never forget the care and attention I received that ultimately helped me to get better.
