"My treatment and care"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13) University Hospital Wishaw / Medical Oncology

(as the patient),

I had been diagnosed with cancer just after Christmas 2024 .I had been admitted to Wishaw General on my first occasion I spent around 19 days  here to have blood transfusions and antibiotics I struggled mentally to cope with my diagnosis and could not sleep, I was in a terrible state of mind unresponsive to all medical staff.

I was then Admitted again as I have a rare form of cancer along with complications I underwent surgery to improve my quality of life as I was extremely sick and ill. This surgery would assist me through my cancer journey ,to date  I have spent a total of 60 days in the great and dedicated care of all staff here at Wishaw general I only had 1 department where I felt very poorly treated and that was down to individuals.

I still have to face my cancer journey, however my time has given me the opportunity to really know what it means to be patient ,to accept care, kindness goes a long way but I want to thank all the staff of ward 13 and the NHS. Yes there are lots of negative stories, but I just wanted to say no one tells the great achievements and the happy outcomes of life, we just swamp ourselves in the negative

Thank you for sharing your experience in University Hospital Wishaw, ward 13.

What an extremely anxious time for you. I am so pleased to hear that you received such great care from all the staff at University Hospital Wishaw with the exception of one department where you were poorly treated and I would like to apologise for the way you were treated.

I would be delighted to share your kind words with the team.

I wish you well in the remainder of your cancer journey and I hope you are recovering well from your surgery.

Kind regards,

Karen Donnelly
