What is the point of the Minor Injuries number when you phone with a knee injury and they tell you to go to A&E to sit? 

The whole point of this service is to avoid having to sit in A&E for hours on end and to relieve the stress and tension of an already over used department. Do better, minor injuries dept

Dear Jiveez94

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback. I am sorry that you did not receive the service you had expected. The minor Injury unit has a limited number of slots available per day and is currently staff by emergency nurse practitioner team.

Patients are asked to call phone first and speak to a nurse advisor. A set of criteria is used to determine the best possible location for you or your relative. Sometime it is decided minor injury unit may not be the most appropriate location.

We also have a referral pathway from main ED if a patient is suitable for the minor injury unit, once the patient has been triaged, the triage nurse can refer the patient to the minor injury unit if there is availability.

While we would like all patients to be see in their desired location, this may not be the most appropriate location for the best assessment and care dependant on patients situation.

I hope this gives you some clarity on the pathways to minor injury unit and the reasons patients may be referred to main ED.
