Hi, I am an alcoholic and have been for many years. This was my first detox and i was terrified coming into Dame Carol. I needn't have worried as when i first came through the door i was welcomed with open arms and put at ease.
The staff were lovely and the residents too all rallied around me so I didn't feel alone. The days were packed with activities, there were fun ones and others where we were encouraged to open up at our own pace.
All in all it has been a positive experience and there is nothing to fear. I survived the detox and have been given tools to assist me with help from staff, residents and groups that visit like AA, CA and NA and meditation groups in-house. I felt safe here and if i could have stayed longer then I would have.
