"Appalling communication "

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

My mum is currently in LRI following emergency surgery for a perforated bowel 9 days ago. Communication since surgery has been appalling. The surgery was high risk and the Doctors were supposed to call when she was out of theatre with an update - we received nothing we had to ring around trying to find out if she was out of surgery and eventually found her in ITU. We have asked numerous times since to speak to a doctor to discuss the surgery and prognosis, and have been promised a call but have not received one. 5 days after the operation an ITU nurse finally told us what had happened in surgery but she had to caveat she was not a doctor. They have not kept us up to date with results from CT scans, X-rays etc. As ward rounds are out of visiting hours we are unable to be there when there is a doctor around. Mum has memory issues and is being tested for dementia so cannot tell us herself what has been said. Despite filling out 2/3 contact forms and a getting to know you form where we requested to be kept updated we have had no communication.
