"Amazing nurses"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Short Stay Unit

(as a service user),

I was admitted to surgical short stay for around 4/5 days earlier this year. I was absolutely terrified as I didn’t know I was even going to theatre due to lack of communication in prior ward.

The nurses were amazing with me, I’m a student nurse myself and knew hospitals were scary, but being on the other side really is terrifying. The staff all took time to talk with me about anything I was worried or upset about and just seemed like they genuinely cared.

One nurse specifically - Shannon I think it was - was absolutely amazing in every way. She went out of her way to go up to my previous ward just to get a doctor to prescribe me more pain relief. She moved me into a side room post op which made a massive difference in my time on the ward.

I was never made to feel like a burden, she listened to everything I had to say and acted on everything straight away. She truly is an asset to the team and I appreciate her care so much.

The healthcare support workers all responded to me in a kind and timely manner, they listened to what I had to say and assisted me when I needed it which I truly appreciate.

Dear Rebeccam0512.

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Wishaw, Short Stay Unit.

I am sorry to hear of the poor communication in the previous ward meaning you didn't know you would need surgery, but I am glad that the nurses were able to show you genuine care and compassion. It can be a scary time staying in hospital even for the most experienced nurses or doctors so I can imagine how you would feel being on the receiving end of care as a student nurse.

I look forward to sharing your kind words with the whole team and especially Shannon who I am sure will be delighted to hear your lovely feedback. We take great pride in the care we provide to our patients and I am glad that you were able to see and experience this.

I hope you are recovering well and wish you good luck in your studies.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
