"Built his confidence and got the most out of the therapy"

About: Specialist Child Health & Disability / Speech and Language Therapy Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was on the Speech Sound Disorder Project.  He received 2 sessions of therapy a week for 6 weeks which was excellent for him and really helped to improve his sounds.  The Speech Therapist built a good relationship with him which made him look forward to going to his appointments and encouraged him to build his confidence and get the most out of the therapy.  I really appreciate all that has been done for my son  on this programme but would like that he could have more speech therapy sessions to build on the great progress that he has made.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story. I am delighted to hear that you found this approach so helpful for you and your son. I know it is a big commitment for families to attend twice weekly and it relies on a strong partnership between the parent and Speech and Language Therapist, I am also aware that success comes from a lot of home practice so I commend you and your child for your hard work. It sounds like the speech sound disorder project has been a great success so far for you and it is great to hear that your son's confidence has also increased as a result. If you would like to speak to your Speech and Language Therapist about the planned future management please don't hesitate to contact our department directly; we value close links and would be glad to chat further.
