"Helped me navigate my way through my anxieties"

About: Adult mental health / Talking Therapies Walsall

(as a service user),

Recently had a health issue which resulted in my well managed Emetophobia getting out of control - to the point that the thought of leaving the house was incredibly anxiety inducing.

I got in contact with Walsall Talking Therapies who assessed me, recognised my phobia and got me the help with a CBT therapist  - Trina - who helped me navigate my way through my anxieties and fear with an understanding of the complexities of emetophobia and without prejudice or judgement.

My therapy has now come to an end and although the emetophobia hasn't completed abandoned ship (it's a work-in-progress), it is no longer in the forefront of my mind and taking over my life!

A few months back I would never have thought I would be able to have watched films or ate certain foods due to the fear but after some graded exposure I'm now able to do this without looking away or reacting to it (which still feels so bizarre after feeling that way for so long).

At the end of the therapy I was given a blueprint to remind me if I ever start to feel that way again what I have achieved and the tools I now have to help me, and the reassurance that if I ever feel things are getting too much I can get back in contact for some more support.

Hi Anony9

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences of talking therapies with Walsall talking Therapy service. It is so lovely to read that you have experienced some really positive improvements with anxiety and emetophobia, which is so incredibly impactful for those who live with it.

It sounds as though CBT in this case has helped you to find different ways of living with emetophobia, and having a therapy blueprint to help you to navigate any bumps in your journey seems like a really helpful tool

I will be sure to pass on your feedback to the amazing Trina, who will be thrilled that you have taken the time to leave such positive feedback.

Good luck for your continuing journey and take care

Chelle
