"Too quiet to talk"

About: Royal Eye Infirmary / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

The waiting areas of the new REI building has no radio. There were 10-15 people present and not one spoke. It was not until one person quite lively struck up a conversation that others felt there was some background noise and felt more confident talking.

The waiting areas considering patients are present for some time could use with light background noise such as a radio.

In addition, for first time patients, the expectation of appointment time could be communicated with patients. An 08:30 appointment does not mean seeing clinician at that time but may have a series of diagnostic or visual tests first. My whole duration was just under 2 hours, lucky I put 2 hours on the parking meter.

The staff were lovely and the new facilities were pleasant minus the silence.

Thank you for bringing this to the fore fronts of our minds.

As you can imagine it’s been quite a project moving the whole of the eye hospital and such simple things can be over looked sometimes which we apologise for but will certainly look to implement.

I hope this reassures you.

Ben Porter

Royal Eye Infirmary Clinical Administration Manager
