"Communication and promises"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Acute medical admissions (AMU) Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Cardiology

(as a relative),

Husband with previous coronary history was not well experiencing similar symptoms so we called an ambulance who decided he had to be admitted.

They arrived quickly and the investigation was thorough led by a paramedic and a student ambulance colleague.

On arrival after initial tests he was admitted into AMU with assurances that he would see a cardiologist, and there he stayed for the next three days.

This was obviously caused by the weekend and by Monday he was interviewed by the initial doctor he had met when he arrived who was surprised to hear that he was still waiting.

Eventually a cardiologist arrived planning to send him for a CT scan.

He is still waiting 2 days later. The promises seem to be unsubstantiated.

I am disappointed that promises and plans seem to be just flannel and appreciate the NHS are very stretched however it would improve an otherwise superior service if we had a more certain plan in place.

Dear Penny927

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. I am very sorry to read that your husband is unwell so I can understand your concerns. As Care Opinion is anonymous I am unable to comment directly so if your husband is still an inpatient I would encourage you to talk to the medical and nursing staff that are caring for him in the first instance and ask them about the his plan of care as they will be able to answer any questions.

I hope your husband is feeling better very soon.

Best wishes

Teresa
