About: North Devon District Hospital / Speech and Language therapy

(as a service user),

I have seen Nicola at North Devon District Hospital  3 times recently for help and guidance for muscle tension dysphonia. It is distressing not being able to speak properly, especially when this is just one of many chronic & debilitating conditions affecting your life. 

I am a patient that needs to understand what is going on, as well as understanding the mechanism of any therapy I am given. At a time when pain, exhaustion and stress are at their highest I found it so wonderful to be treated with such humanity and empathy by Nicola.

This should be a given, I know, but in an over-stretched health service it is not. Nicola understood my needs and responded accordingly. She also treated me with such kindness.

I still have muscle tension dysphonia but I understand what is going on and I have exercises, tools as it were, to help me. 

Everything Nicola has done for me in such an exemplary way is so very much appreciated.
