"Specialist spinal care"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

I would like to thank my dad's nurse, Zoe, for providing specialist spinal care.

My dad recently had a fall and broke his back. The junior orthopaedic Dr who attended A&E had told us that my dad's fractures were stable and had told the nurses that full spinal protocol was not necessary.

Fortunately, Zoe challenged this and used full spinal protocol until her consultant was 100% certain that fractures were stable. Any wrong movement could have paralyzed my dad so thank you to all the nursing staff for taking the time to care for him properly.

A busy ward and my dad required five members of staff to log roll him to ensure no further damage was done.

My dad has since been moved to Glasgow but he will miss the humour in the ward that kept him going.

Thank you also to Mr Gilmour and his team who ensured an MRI was carried out to give us the result we required.

Dear Be precautious

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of the care provided to your dad within the Emergency Department and our Trauma and Ortho Ward at University Hospital Crosshouse.

I am sorry to hear that your dad needed to attend the Emergency Department following a fall and injuring his back. This must have been a very worrying time for you.

It is reassuring to hear that the specialised care your dad required was provided in a patient, professional and compassionate way by all of our staff. This is a lovely example of the patient centred care that we strive to provide

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients and it will be my pleasure to ensure your kind comments are shared with the wider Teams in the ED and Orthopaedic Ward and in particular with Zoe.

Please accept my best wishes for your dad’s ongoing recovery and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
