"Made me feel like an inconvenience"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Worst experience.

Visiting family and due to my baby’s small size, I’ve been told to keep a very close eye on movements. I wasn’t confident with movements during the day so I called up and explained- got told to come in.

The member of staff who was clearly the one in charge didn't seem bothered and made me feel like a total inconvenience!

Got put on the monitor and left. The member of staff then came back and told me to go onto my side, they adjusted the things on my stomach and then told me to hold it in place and they left.

The monitor kept losing baby’s heartbeat and dropping to a dangerously low rate. I had to keep moving the monitor to find it again- which I think is ridiculous to leave patients basically having to do their own monitoring. They only came back when the monitor started beeping with concern, and told me that’s not good, they should’ve left me on my back.

I changed position and back on the monitor and off they went. I saw a doctor and they wanted me to stay in (I gracefully declined due to the treatment I have had and also that I was happy with movements). The midwife basically shoved a self discharge form in my face and told me - sign here to say you take responsibility in baby’s risk to health. I’ve never felt more of an inconvenience than I did here. Not a single take care or make sure you call again if you’re worried, not even a goodbye!

I cannot wait to get home to my usual hospital midwives. In my view, this member of staff  needs to seriously check how they speak and treat their pregnant patients. I’m glad I won’t be giving birth there.
