"Birth of daughter at Antrim Hospital"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Delivery Suite

(as the patient),

After 2 days of contractions, I was admitted to Antrim Hospital just after midnight. From when the contractions started I had a few telephone conversations with the team, and each time they reassured me that everything was progressing as it should, although a little bit slow. (Contractions came at 10-minute intervals from 4 am on the Sunday until we left for the hospital on Monday night.)

When I was admitted to the hospital ward I was assigned a lovely midwife called Amy. She reassured me and made sure that I was comfortable. She constantly told me that I could do this, which I started to doubt. When I was moved to the delivery ward, I was assigned midwife Agata and Student Midwife Rebekkah - all I will say is that they were angels sent from God. They took the most amazing care of not only me, but my husband. As First Time Parents, we both felt overwhelmed at what was about to happen, but Agata and Rebekkah provided words of encouragement. After nearly 2 hours of pushing Sister Marie  was asked to examine me as I was having issues pushing my little girl out. It was then decided that I would need a little assistance and Dr Beattie was called. He delivered my little girl via forceps, which was an amazing experience due to him and his team explaining every step.

The aftercare I received was second to none, with various midwives helping me change nappies, understand how to correctly swaddle and get my head around breast feeding. I can not fault the team and must say that my experience at Antrim Hospital was amazing. I will never be able to repay the team the kindness they have shown to me, so leaving a review is the least I can do.
