As a family we have been through an extremely tough 3 weeks - initially my Mum with dementia, facing end of life and then within a week my Dad also becoming extremely poorly.
I am in awe of the care they have received from the team of health care professionals- Doctors, District Nurses, Community Nurses, Carers, Pharmacists. It would have been easy to say they are in their 90s, they have had a good life and it’s time for them to go however the team has gone the extra mile to provide them with excellent medical care and emotional support to enable them to regain their health.
Doctors have carried out home visits, pharmacy has delivered drugs, District Nurses have delivered care with compassion and Carers have supported with dignity, good humour and highlighted concerns when appropriate.
Every single person who has attended has treated them with respect, listened to them with interest and has advocated for them to receive the care they require. This has been a great blessing not only for them but also for the family, none of whom live close by.
There is a lot of negativity about lack of services within the NHS however I don’t believe there’s another country in the world where my parents would have received such wonderful care.
The services have adopted a joined up approach, communicating well with each other to deliver the best possible outcome. They have contacted appropriate providers to ensure a wrap around care service.
