"Hampered in enquiring about prognosis and continued care."

About: The Ulster Hospital / Older people's healthcare The Ulster Hospital / Ward 3E (MAU/Unscheduled Care)

(as a relative),

My elderly gran was a patient in 3E UHD following admission through A&E (April 2024). She has since been moved to a different ward. When visiting there was no signage to indicate who's care she was under, probably due to encompass. I enquired with the nurs as to who my grans consultant was and they wouldn't provide the information, instead stressing that she was seen by ' a Dr' every day.

Not knowing who was ultimately responsible for my grans care for me was a lack of transparency and meant we were hampered in enquiring as to her prognosis and continued care.

Thank you for your comment regarding the consultant caring for your gran in 3 E. The unit is an acute medical unit and the consultant cover changes every 1 or 2 days, I apologise for any confusion but I can reassure you that your gran would have been seen daily by a medical consultant whilst on the ward. Medical and nursing Staff are always available to speak with family and provide any updates in care.

I hope this offers some clarity regarding the medical cover within the acute medical unit

Regards, Rhonda

lead nurse
