I attended the day surgery unit for a lumpectomy for breast cancer. Obviously this is a stressful and worrying time but the staff in the unit were wonderful.
Although they were obviously busy and attending to lots of different patients with different needs they would always find time to check on me and have a quick chat, or to see if I needed anything. It was the little things that made a difference, like adjusting the light above my head so it wasn't so glaring.
After the surgery, the excellent care continued. Sandwiches and coffee appeared immediately and I felt like a close eye was being kept on me. I left with a good understanding of what I had been given in terms of pain relief and exercises and this has definitely made my first couple of days post surgery much easier.
The staff are amazing, their humour and care never wavered, even when they were obviously busy and I was so grateful for the kindness and support I received that day.
