"Absolutely no understanding of mental health related distress"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a relative),

The people we spoke to showed absolutely no understanding of mental health related distress. After several phonecalls for support for an elderly relative their advice was to take him for a walk. Only after they were told we were going to A&E and telling them they refused to help did they (reluctantly) agree to a Dr calling us back.

The Dr was lovely and prescribed emergency medication until GP back open but prior to speaking with them the service we received was shambolic.

Dear Angph54

I read your story with concern and I would like the opportunity to explore NHS 24’s input further. Could I kindly ask you to contact our Patient Experience team to provide some additional detail, this will allow us to investigate your contact with NHS 24 fully. You can contact a member of our Patient Experience Team at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thank you again for sharing your story, I appreciate this would have been an upsetting and worrying time for you all.

Kind Regards

Laura
