Attended Gartnavel Hospital with my mum for a CT scan. Understandably, she was worried about the scan. We felt the receptionist at MRI department could not be more unhelpful and was frankly rude. When we first arrived there was no receptionist and we dialled the number as per the instructions to advise we had arrived with no issue. The receptionist on their return said we had not been checked in and told us we were sitting in the wrong waiting area.
We also observed another patient sitting outside and visibly worried and upset and the receptionist marched out and sent them on their way to another area. We felt they could have said in a much nicer way and in a manner where others didn’t overhear, and offer to show them where to go.
The healthcare professionals who looked after my mum were great and explained everything clearly. They may have not checked us in but they knew we were there and were lovely to speak to.
However I felt that Gartnavel requires a general upgrade, along with more staff training. The building itself was outdated and unkempt. There was mucky hallways and walls falling to pieces as if beds had been bashed in to them. Some staff seemed to take little to no pride in uniforms (some dirty/not wearing proper uniform), I seen staff on mobile phones, and staff wheeling patients down hallways attempting to get beds in general lifts. It seemed chaotic.
This all added to the anxiety of attending for a ct scan and what the outcome may be.
