"Unacceptable treatment"

About: Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Northern Ireland Specialist Transport and Retrieval (NISTAR) Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Out patients

(as a parent/guardian),

Hi, we attended the PTU in March time with our daughter. I was not going to write this because I know how much pressure hospital staff are under but, I feel the treatment we received was embarrassing and dismissive.

We arrived at PTU and met with a nursing assistant insisting in a bellicose manner we are not booked in. I presented my appointment letter and after a difficult exchange the nursing assistant said they would get their manager. The manager insisted the appointment was not for them and to find my way back to outpatients.

Outpatients confirmed the appointment was for PTU and when I went back the nursing assistant seemingly became more annoyed. I felt the manager was of no help and dismissed me completely allowing them to speak to us in a dispiriting manner.

We went back to outpatients for the second time and explained the situation and a helpful receptionist and nurse sorted our problem and we finally got to see who we needed to see.

Needless to say the whole situation was embarrassing and unnecessary. I consider this a ridiculous behaviour from staff in a children’s hospital.
