"Left multiple voicemail messages but no return call"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter sought urgent support from the Sexual Health Service.  She required support with an abortion, but actually ended up miscarrying before this happened.

Communicating with the service was difficult.  She left multiple voicemail messages but no return call.  When she did eventually receive an appointment (after I intervened to assertively ask for her to be called back) - the clinician seeing her had no context around previous phone discussions re: the miscarriage.

We had expected empathy from a service such as this but were disappointed, in terms of tone of discussions and lack of clarity about what was going to happen next.

Hello, I would like to empathise with you and your daughter as to what I know will have been a very difficult time.

I am the Admin Services Manager for Women, Children & Families Division.

I am sorry to hear that your attempts to make contact with the appropriate service did not go as would be expected. It would be helpful if you were to make contact with myself in order that we can discuss more fully the telephone number that you had called, in order to ascertain which phone these messages were left on and that way I can look further into what has happened on this occasion.

If you phone the main hospital line (01382 660111) and ask for ext. 32135 I will be more than happy to speak this through with you.
