"I am very glad that I found recovery"

About: Bac O'Connor CGL Birmingham

(as a service user),

I came to CGL last year 2023 and I was referred by the Police as I was currently take Heroin at the time and they advised me to seek help and support from CGL. They put me on a prescribed Methadone prescription for around a year, I came to Lonsdale every two weeks to a month to give urine samples and they mixed between clean and used on top.

CGL gave me my best chance in life, they helped me see that I could live a life and there was help and support if I wanted it.

Lubna the CGL homeless worker from Lonsdale offered me detox and rehab and I had never knew that this was an option. I thought that I had only had two options to live or die and I chose to live and take CGLs support.

I then was referred to Wayne from the detox and rehab team and we discussed the options around detox and rehab and we looked at what rehab's I could go to. I felt that B.A.C O'Connor was the best option and Wayne explained that this was the right fit for me and he would refer me to them, I want to thank Wayne for saving my life, as I didn't want to live anymore and I believe that CGL have saved it.

I am very glad that I found recovery and I feel that my time in B.A.C was well spent. I learnt so much and have have become so focused on my my new recovery journey.

A special thanks to Wayne and CGL, you will never know how much I am grateful.

Dear SamIran

Thank you for getting in touch with us to share your experiences.

My name is Lydia, and I am responsible for listening and responding to people’s feedback.

I’m so glad that the Police referred you into our service and encouraged you to seek help. It sounds like at the time, you really needed some support to see that positive change in your life could be possible.

I’m really glad that Lubna had a discussion with you about your option to attend rehab and detox, as these types of support can have a huge positive impact on somebody’s recovery. It sounds like your decision to go into residential support was absolutely the right way to go and it was amazing to hear that Wayne supported you so brilliantly in finding the right residential service for you.

I’m aware that spending time in a residential service is a massive commitment, and that people who take these opportunities need to completely commit themselves to all of the support that is on offer. I’m aware that this is by no means easy, but with the right attitude and determination it really is possible to leave residential support feeling stronger than ever before. I hope you feel incredibly proud of everything you have achieved and all of the challenges you have faced and succeeded in over the last year or so since you started your journey of recovery.

It was really lovely to read your kind words about Lubna and Wayne. I have shared your feedback with them and their managers, and it was greatly appreciated by all. We will also make sure that Bac O’Connor get to read your feedback too. I’m sure that everyone who has been involved in your support feel incredibly honoured to have been part of your journey and witness the life changing and life saving progress you have made.

I wish you all the very best as you continue to move forward, and that really positive opportunities come your way as a result of all of your hard work. I’m sure if you stay as focussed and committed as you have so far, that you will continue to go from strength to strength.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences with us.

Best wishes and take care,

Lydia
