"Poor reception "

About: Park House Medical Centre

At 08.00 on 18/04/2024 after having an old dead and dirty 1 inch long thorn pierce my shoe and go all the way into my foot the previous day I decided to do the sensible thing and get it checked by a medical professional and see if I needed a Tetanus jab.

I explained this to the receptionist who informed me that I needed to go to either the walk in centre or accident and emergency as they didn't do Tetanus jabs at the practice, which seemed very bazaar to me.

I asked that as I was already there if somone could at least take a look at the injury for me?

Once again I was informed that I needed to go to either the walk in centre or accident and emergency.

Although it was much further I chose to go to accident and emergency as it was easier to get to using public transport due to my foot injury and my walking now being impaired.

On arrival at accident and emergency they took my details and checked my medical records, and after my explaining my injury and what had happened at my GP practice appeared baffled as to why I was unable to be treated there, get a Tetanus jab or simply check my records to see when my last Tetanus was.

This is when I was informed that I didn't need a Tetanus jab due to me previously having one only four years before at my GP practice on 04/11/2020 after a bad head injury.

However accident and emergency checked the wound to my foot, applied a new dressing, and gave me some antibiotics before giving me the ok to leave.

I am now left asking why was it that I could not get my injury looked at and my Tetanus records checked at park medical practice instead of being sent away to accident and emergency across the city which took me all morning to do?

Fortunately I am not a busy parent or had a job I needed to be at, and had the time to attend accident and emergency.

Since Covid we've been asked to check with our local pharmacy or doctor if possible before attending hospital.

However when we do we're cast aside and sent away. It's no wonder that the hospitals are so busy.
