"I was grateful for their help"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Physiotherapy Community Nursing (ICST) / Community Nursing Team Carluke

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I had a stroke 35 years ago which meant I had to give up my farm and move home. I couldn't talk for 5 years after my stroke and still have word finding difficulties now. My right arm and leg are affected from my stroke but I was managing well at home until I recently had a fall in my bathroom where I injured myself. I was admitted to University Hospital Wishaw and Kello Hospital following a pelvic fracture.

I went home with 4 carers and I was using a stedy to transfer. I had physiotherapy from the Integrated Community Support Team in Carluke where Nicole, Lee, and Amy helped me.

Being listened to

Being listened to

We spoke about what I wanted, which was to get back to using my zimmer to walk rather than using the stedy. I wanted to make my right arm move better.  I wanted to use my toilet rather than use the commode in my living room. I wanted to get to hospital appointments with my family rather than rely on ambulance transport.

Staff attitude

Staff attitude

I always laughed a lot during our sessions. I was grateful for their help.
Explanations

Explanations

The staff took time to explain things to me.
Being given time

Being given time

Because I have trouble finding my words and speaking, the staff always gave me time to communicate.

Good afternoon NicC23,

Firstly, many thanks for submitting this review on behalf of our patient, it is very much appreciated. I wonder if you would be able to share my response.

I am sorry to hear that you have required a hospital admission due to a fall at home, but delighted to hear that you have recovered well from your injury. We are fortunate to have a wonderful team of professionals who always strive to provide a person centered approach, listening and working with you to achieve your agreed rehabilitation goals. I am happy to hear of the excellent progress you have made with your rehabilitation and hope that you remain well at home and maintain as much independence as possible.

I will be delighted to pass on your personal thanks to the team and in particular to Nicole, Lee and Amy

Kind regards

Karen
