"Difficult but reassuring appointment"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I recently attended the Rapid Access  service in gynaecology. I only moved to North Lanarkshire services a few years ago and I’ve not had a great experience so far - to the point there is a gynaecologist I will not see due to how horrible that appointment was.

This was the first time I had been in Hairmyres and the first time meeting Dr Minhas. The appointment was difficult due to what was happening, but Dr Minhas’ communication, patience and understanding made this appointment much more tolerable. She took the time to explore my medical history and explain things clearly before we proceeded. She made sure I understood what was happening and showed empathy towards me.

The nursing assistants (who sadly I never got the names of) and nurse involved were all fantastic and lovely. They took their time with me, comforted me during an incredibly painful procedure and validated my response to it. My hand was held throughout and they never stopped communicating with me.

I cannot adequately express how important that all is during procedures which make you feel so vulnerable.

I just wanted to say thank you, you really helped me. You are all doing a great job.

Dear Ism123

Thank you for taking time to share your experience at the rapid access gynaecology clinic. You have clearly been through a very difficult time. Providing details of your experience, and writing about the care and support of Dr Minhas and the nursing team will not only be appreciated by, but also other women who access this service.

Feedback from those experiencing a situation, is valuable, important and improves care standards. It also provides reassurance to staff and patients alike. I cannot thank you enough for your open and honest account of your care.

I am sorry that previous appointments have not been good. Gynaecological interventions can be very uncomfortable, painful and distressing and it is important that all staff recognise the importance of dignity, empathy and support throughout all procedures.

I will of course share your feedback with Dr Minhas and the nursing staff and hope that you are recovering well. Again I thank you for your feedback and know that both staff and other women will value your reassuring comments.

Kind Regards

Lise
