"Alcohol addiction"

About: Inclusion Recovery Hampshire / Basingstoke

(as the patient),

I have struggled with alcoholism for a very long time (15+ years).

Things grew a lot worse over the last three years, following a bad relationship ending and working in a high-stress environment (NHS). I was also living alone with a limited support network. This resulted in an increased alcohol dependency, several hospital admissions for acute withdrawal, and suicidal inclinations.

I was extremely depressed, feeling like I had let my family and my work colleagues down.

Thank you for your post and sharing your story!

Addiction effects people from all walks of life and this can also ripple out and impact on those around them, such as family, friends and work colleagues, which can leave individuals feeling guilty and that they have let others down.

We have a partner organization called PSL - Parent Support Link - who offer support for those effected by a loved ones addiction. Please peak to your Recovery Worker or pick up a leaflet at your service to find out more. Alternatively their website has lots of information, including ways to contact them.

Wishing you well in your recovery journey!
