"Coeliac Services"

About: Western Health & Social Care Trust / Nutrition and Dietetics Service

(as a service user),

I am retired and would describe myself as fairly healthy. I was diagnosed via blood test as a coeliac in 2022 and while in hindsight I probably had some symptoms, it came as a complete shock.

I was put in contact with Joy, a Gastroenterology Dietitian. Given the huge changes to my diet that were required, I managed very well and stuck, I'd say 100% to the diet. My gut, however appeared slow to recover and continues to struggle to keep my foliate levels up. This is where having access to Joy is such a boon, I have spent hours on the phone to my Health Centre trying to get a ring back for a blood test or whatever, before giving up and contacting Joy's office.

Whether she is at work or not, my details are taken, she calls back, I get a face to face appointment, bloods taken, advice given and a personal message with results a couple of days later! Joy is an absolute Joy to have as a support. I almost feel guilty getting such a marvellous service when so many are not able to access the services they need.

Dear Farms & Hills,

My name is Joanne Casey, Head of Service for Nutrition and Dietetics here in the Western Health and Social Care Trust. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent diagnosis and experience with us. Feedback such as yours means a lot to our team. Your story has been shared with Joy and she has been delighted to receive it.

As you will be aware, the life long dietary and lifestyle changes which are required after a diagnosis of Coeliac Disease can be challenging at times and I hope you will continue to experience the benefit of the support and expertise from Joy and our award winning Dietetic Led Coeliac Service.

Finally I just want to apologise for the delay in replying to you.

Best wishes

Joanne
