"Everyone concerned in my care deserve medals"

About: Raigmore Hospital / General Medicine Raigmore Hospital / Radiotherapy RNI Community Hospital / Physiotherapy

(as the patient),

I was having problems with my bowels so the doctor referred me for a scan. I was diagnosed with cancer in my lower bowel. She referred me to Dr MacGregor who referred me to Aberdeen for a PET scan. Outcome being that I needed a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

A few days after starting this I had a treatment and was heading home but collapsed on the street with a stroke. I was admitted to Ward 5a Raigmore, where I spent 6 weeks. During this period all my radiotherapy was completed.

The staff in ward 5a were absolutely amazing ,their care was 5 star. The staff in the radiotherapy dept were brilliant making something that could have been very stressful very light-hearted. Every day we had such a wonderful time while  I was getting the treatment, totally relaxed ,they were all amazing.

The physiotherapist and occupational therapist did a fantastic job, even had all my disabled equipment in place in my house before I got home. My stroke left me with a slight paralysis on my right leg.

Since being discharged Dr MacGregor and the entire team of the Macmillan suite have been outstanding.

Also I have getting physiotherapy at the RNI for the past 5 weeks and has helped my recovery immensely ,thanks to Deborah.

All in all everyone concerned in my care deserve medals ,nothing was too much trouble for them and went out to their way to make my recovery as pleasant as possible. All true professionals. Well done.

Dear Jamesmx23

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I am however, very sorry to hear of your diagnosis and subsequent stroke.

Please be assured that your post has been cascaded to all the staff involved with your care and treatment during your admission.

It is always lovely for staff to received such positive comments, and to know that their hard work, and dedication to patients is well received.

The staff will be greatly encouraged to hear that you had such a positive experience regarding your treatment, and to know that their care was 5 star.

This will have been a very challenging time for you, and am sure still may be. Your feedback is therefore very much appreciated.

I hope that this responds finds you continuing your recovery.

With kind regards

Sylvia
