"Wait was ridiculous"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Minor Injuries Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

Took my son to A&E in the evening as he required stitches to his hand. Staff nice enough but wait was ridiculous left department at 4am

Don’t understand why there can’t be practice nurse or doctor constantly seeing to patients with minor injuries. This would really help with waiting times and free up doctors for more seriously sick patients.

Dear HarveyBoy

I am sorry to hear about your son’s accident. The department is extremely busy and I apologise for the long wait. I am not sure what time you attended the Department, but there is a Minor Injuries Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary which is open from 9am to 9pm. This Unit is led by Emergency Nurse Practitioners who can give you access to health information, advice and treatment. Treatment includes being able to arrange x-rays if required, apply plasters or splints and stitch and dress wounds. We have also developed a virtual care service, called the Flow Navigation Centre. This can be accessed through 111 and can provide reassurance and home care options while also providing access to booked slots at a Minor Injuries service to help avoid lengthy waits for care. You can find out more about this service here.

I hope your son’s hand is healing well.

Best wishes

Nicole
