I recently slipped and sustained a right distal radius fracture.
Having slipped in the afternoon and hurt my wrist I was driven to RD&E by my husband and checked in at Accident & Emergency. On booking in at reception at about 17.00hrs I was triaged within 7 minutes. Later the lower part of my right arm was x-rayed. I was then seen by Doctor Rene who explained the damage (very clearly) to myself and my husband. The doctor then went on to tell us what action he thought was most appropriate for my injury to which I agreed.
My wrist was put in a half cast and manipulated to try to get the bones back to where it should be. I left the hospital at about midnight feeling that I had received excellent care and attention from all concerned with my case. Given how busy the department was I feel lucky to have been treated so quickly and to have had the same doctor look after me all the time I was in A&E.
A week and a half later I returned to the fracture clinic at the hospital to have a full plaster cast placed on my wrist. Once more the treatment I received from the welcome at reception, to the nurses in the clinic, in the x-ray department, Annette who plastered me, the physio and especially the consultant Mr Thomas who explained how my injury was progressing and to what my options were going forward could not in my opinion have been bettered.
During both my visits I felt extremely well cared for by everyone involved. All the staff were very approachable, helpful and kind.
