I was recently rushed into an incredibly busy A&E. Due in my view to the fact that at least 3 other Minor Injury departments in other hospitals are now closed at 5pm each day and their patients are re-directed to Craigavon, the department was unbelievably busy.
I was triaged very quickly, however it then took over 2 hours to be seen by a Dr. I was treated with great courtesy and kindness and the staff were very professional, but under great pressure due to a lack of staff and increasing numbers of patients.
I needed to be admitted to a coronary ward but there were no beds available. I stayed in an A&E bay and was then moved to Ramone Ward 1, which is not a coronary ward.
Again, I was treated with great professionalism and care by staff who were busy and needed to access staff from the coronary team. The coronary team were very thorough and professional and resolved my issues.
I cannot praise all of the staff I came into contact with enough, however, they clearly need additional staff and a much bigger department to cope with their workload.
"Staff working under great pressure"
