Came to the A&E on a Sunday night with a broken wrist, in excruciating pain having to hold my wrist in my other hand in a fixed position to keep it a little more bearable. I was only seen in 12 hours, although there were no more than 8-10 people in the waiting room when I arrived. The specialist saw me at 9 am, left 'to fetch the x-rays', and never came back. Just went home, without leaving any notes for the next shift to know about my existence. Not even offered a sling until the morning came and the new shift came in. Took 3 hours and 3 discussions with doctors to finally get some more proper painkillers (they just kept disappearing with the promise to sort it out). If they were busy with anything, that mostly was work-unrelated chats and giggles, I had the opportunity to observe for a long time waiting to get some response to my painkiller requests.
Had a wring fracture diagnosed, and the most horrible heavy and tight cast work that caused huge swelling and more discomfort to be replaced by a proper one privately.
Glad I could use my private insurance to avoid the complications caused by the Whittington 'specialists' negligence and lack of basic skill.
"horrible A&E experience"
