"disappointed in the way the interviews are going"

About: Rampton Hospital / Personality Disorder Pathway

(as the patient),

I am disappointed in the way the interviews are going i.e. patient panels. For the last few years, the interviews have been run by the previous team responsible , who treat the patients with the upmost respect and always give you a good day and always give you the panels decision on who gets the job in a timely manner.

But now you don’t know how the staff are going to be and the panels can be 3 of 4 different teams. There is a lack of communication and lack of information where as before we had everything organised in advance.

I don’t like how its run now and I feel if it carries on like this, I will have no choice but to stop doing panels which I don’t want to do but it causes too much hassle and it’s making me feel frustrated.

Please go back to how it was last year with just the previous staff doing them and I think it would be good for the head of patient involvement to get together with the remaining patient interviewees to disclose concerns.

Hello

I'm sorry you feel this way. In the absence of the staff member that would normally undertake this role, three of us are trying our best to ensure the patient panel stays operational. No one supports the importance of the patient panel when it comes to recruitment more than myself nor the other two staff members that have given up their time to ensure patients continue to have their say. I appreciate its been a little disorganised with me having been on leave and there being three people involved in the organisation of supporting panels. I also appreciate that we have been very reliant on a ever decreasing group of patients that take time out of their busy schedule to help with the interviews for which I am most grateful. I do want you to know that we are working on recruiting more patients to help reduce the pressure on yourselves going forward as I know I am always knocking on Eden's door!!!

Hopefully it won't be long until the staff member returns

Hi

Thankyou for taking the time to post on care opinion and I am really sorry you have had this experience. The team that have picked up the patient panels while another staff member is away are working with other members of the original team to keep the panels going during this busy period of recruitment and also continue with their own roles in the hospital. We will certainly look at trying to address some of your concerns around the process and learn from your experience. I know we are also trying hard to train some more patients to represent on panels. The staff are also having training so this can be a shared responsibility within each care stream to ensure broader representation.

I hope you will continue to support the panels going forward.

Take Care

Kay

Hi, thank you for taking time to post your feedback on care opinion.

It is not always easy to speak up when things don’t go well.

in your posting you mentioned you thought it would be good for the head of patient involvement to get together with the remaining patient interviewees to disclose concerns.

Paul Sanguinazzi who is the Head of Involvement wanted an update on this and I have assured him actions are being taken. I am the Involvement, Experience and volunteering Lead for Forensic services I am sure you know who I am.

To this end I can let you know tha after speacking with Sam and Several Staff from across Rampton and us from the Involvement Team are meeting next week to get a plan together the build-up the training again for patients and a review of the support needed for our Interviewing patients Reps' this will of course include a review of your concerns. In the short team we should have a plan in place after the meeting next week. In the Longer term you should start to see improvements Including some support from our Volunteers. Perhaps you would consider supporting the training in some way once set up.. Again thank you for posting and I hope this goes some way to make some changes on this soon
