"Substance Misuse Detoxification"

Upon arrival to Dame Carol Detox, I was feeling good that I was coming here to make changes to my life that I needed.  However, at the same time I was feel anxious.  I was given the ground floor in order for my needs to be met.  They kept ringing my Key Worker regarding my bloods, to make sure I was getting the correct support before my arrival.

I had 3 calls before I come here to make me aware of what to expect, what the rules were.  They told me I was not allowed to smoke, this allowed me to be prepared to get vapes before I come here so I was prepared. 

Since I have been here, I have been well looked after with regular check ups.  Along with group work and 1-2-1 support.  They respect your privacy, and knock the door before entering my room.  They have given me additional support and advice with a personal matter effecting me outside which has stopped me from walking.

The groups have been really helpful, the book has really helped me.  I have enjoyed the meditation and the breathing techniques which I have learnt have helped me.   The AA, NA and CA meetings at night have been useful and helpful.  There are daily morning meetings where you can off load how your feeling.  They provide you with any fresh bedding on towels should you need them.    They also have various games you can play.

I have really warmed to both Debbie and Kerry, who have been really caring, shown empathy, understanding and giving good advice.     Ester is really nice, bubbly and helpful too.   Jo is really nice and caring, if you need any extra support she will speak to the Doctor.  Doctor Gale is lovely and knows her job very well. 

It would be good to have more groups.  Although, the groups in place are very helpful.   They groups have been an eye opener and we have all learnt a lot.

It has been a family environment with both the other residents and staff.  We have all helped each other out.  There has always been a member of staff to talk too.  The Doctor has been really nice. 

The food has been really nice, including snacks available.  Free juice so you don't have to worry.  If your hungry between meals, there are crisps, fruit and sandwiches you can eat in between meals.   You can even treat yourself to take away food, so there are menus onsite.  

There are regular shop runs, so if you want any extra treats you can get.  You can go for a walk once you finish your detox.  The place is clean and tidy.

Considering, it is a tough time, detoxing.  I have had good times with laughing and  I am going to miss everyone here.

If you are not allowed out your room the first 24 hours, they provide you with a TV.  There are two front rooms, so you can choose what programmes you want to watch.  There is even a summer house, you can chill in. 

This place has helped me with my journey and I am ready to take on the next steps with going to rehab.  

This place was better that what was described and I expected.
