"Miscommunication"

About: Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I recently fractured my wrist and spine. I was treated at Victoria Hospital Fife. Treatment and care received was very good at the NTC.

I was then given a telephone appointment for the Osteoporosis/ Fracture Liaison Service Fife. On my letter along with date and time of my appoint was my mobile phone number. So I waited patiently to be phoned from 9am till 10am (Appt 9.15). When I didn’t receive the call I phoned the telephone number on the letter, gave my details and was told I had been DNA’d.

The person who tried to phone called a number that has not been used for years, they did not try my mobile number that was clearly on the letter and was given when I had attended my appointments. I now have to wait longer to find out if I have Osteoporosis or need a DXA scan.

I received a letter which was copied to my GP stating that I did not attend appointment and there was no prior notification or explanation. I am extremely annoyed about this episode and feel the person who attempted to call should have used the mobile number stated in the letter and even if they did try a landline when no answer surely you would try the mobile.

Hi,

Oonagh24. Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention and I apologise for the distress that this situation has cause. I appreciate you taking the time to discuss your concerns. As discussed a letter was sent to you and your GP to explain that you had not DNA'd an appointment. We are unsure what happened with the call as contact was attempted, possibly issues with the network.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions
