My husband's sweet and gentle mother passed away in Ward 13 of Hairmyres hospital early in the morning earlier this year, and we were able to hold her hand as she did so thanks to the offer a kind nurse made to let us stay in the Relatives Room in this very special ward.
I wish we could remember the names of all the sweet and kind-hearted staff who cared for her and made her passing such a pain free, trauma free, peaceful and loving one. From the nurse who suggested we stay over that night, to the one who was so attentive to her medication needs, to the one who so respectfully and compassionately spoke to her after she had quietly slipped away. The compassion, care and consideration shown to our precious mum was such a comfort to both us, and her, and has allowed us to feel a sense of peace that we were able to be with her right up to her last breath, and to know that her every need had been tended to by these miracles of human beings.
We will never be able to show how grateful we are for that gift, so freely and easily given, despite all pressures, by the heartbreakingly kind team at ward 14. Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts. You are all so wonderful.
"Compassionate care in both life and death."
