"Please do better…"

About: Victoria Medical Centre Pms Practice

I have gotten myself a phone appointment on the app as it’s extremely hard to get one by ringing up nowadays and I had a really bad experience with both doctors that rang me. Before I get into it, I understand that staff are overworked and stressed but if you choose this career (which is a lot of hard work I can imagine) you’d at least try and care, try and help and provide your patients with the best advice, solutions and treatments you can. I rang up first in March I believe and it took me a lot of courage to ring up to talk about my mental health issues as it’s been getting worse for quite some years now. If you struggle with mental health you know how hard it is to speak up. I told the doctor I wrote a list of all the symptoms I’m experiencing and he told me to list them. Half way through listing all my symptoms I’ve been stopped and asked to refer myself to counselling and that he will send me the link and prescribe some medication (which I asked for). The counselling he’s referred me to is for anxiety and depression and I’ve had a chat with them and they said that if I believe that it is something more than just anxiety and depression (which I do as what i’m struggling with I struggled since I was a child) I should ring my GP and talk about it. I felt like I wasn’t listened to whatsoever and totally brushed off. I had a follow up call with that doctor and said that counselling can only offer me help with my anxiety but I’m not sure if it’s just anxiety and depression I’m experiencing here and he just brushed it off and told me that meds won’t work straight away and I have to wait. I waited and meds made me feel worse so I thought I’ll give it another go and book an appointment with a different doctor. So this time I have my list ready and I did tell the doctor that the list is long but she told me to tell her. Yet again I had to go through the hell of having to repeat the symptoms as it is hard, just for her to say “Right, this took you 10 minutes to list all the symptoms. Next time can you ask for a pro longed appointment as now I’m late for my next patient.” I didn’t know that, I apologised but I did tell her the list was long. I just think this is such a disappointing approach. If she cared she could’ve nicely offered to rebook the appointment so we could discuss the symptoms and I could actually get the help I need. Took me years to speak up about it and I get treated like this. I am now left hopeless and about to register with a different GP and try again.
