"Their professionalism and support was first class"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24) University Hospital Wishaw / Neo-natal Intensive Care

(as the patient),

Wishaw General hospital, Feb 2024 maternity wards and neonatal.

I gave birth on the 3rd of February to our first child and I cannot thank all staff involved enough. Their professionalism and support was first class. Unfortunately 3 weeks later I was admitted again for an infection and once again cared for within the postnatal ward. Such was the high standard of care I was made to feel at home while being away from our daughter for a few nights.

Triage - thank you to Fran (?) for your speedy action to get me to the labour ward on time, supporting my birth plan and for putting up with grumpy me! Also, the swift intervention of other midwives and doctors on duty when I was admitted again.

Labour ward - thank you Geraldine (& colleagues) for the safe delivery of our daughter and your encouragement during this time. You both dealt with the curve balls of our labour fabulously. We will be forever grateful that our bundle of joy arrived safely.

Postnatal ward - thank you to each and every single one of you for your care and knowledge you were able to pass on to my wife and I. It has given us the best start to care for our daughter. You made us both feel at ease and despite all our questions they were answered.

In spite of some complications we very much left feeling supported and part of the family. Thanks again. Personal sound out and acknowledgment of thanks to Ruth for her sharp eye and honest advice. We will miss your laugh but not enough for a third visit this birth :-)

Neo-natal - we unfortunately found ourselves in the position no new parent wishes to be in but we took comfort knowing for the short period of time she was in the best possible hands making this chapter a little easier. Thank you for your care and to John for being our daughter's first friend giving her comfort and her dummy when her mummies weren’t around.

Breastfeeding support - thank you Jacqueline for your advice and support during all our conversations.

A fine example of NHS care in the over critical world we find ourselves in and the kindness of you all as individuals was heartwarming. Thanks again…until next time! Much love ❤️

Dear A&L HB,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Wishaw, Maternity and Neo-natal departments.

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

I am sorry to hear that you had complications and your birth plan did not go fully as expected. I am so pleased that you were surrounded by support and quick thinking and acting staff. I am pleased that this fantastic care has continued when you were readmitted to the postnatal ward and when your daughter was in neonatal care.

I look forward to sharing your beautiful words with all the teams and I am sure they will get a real boost in hearing the impact their care and professionalism has made to your experience.

I wish you and your family a lifetime of happiness.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
