"We left the appointment feeling confused"

About: Ophthalmology / Eye Casuality and Orthopics

(as a relative),

My elderly mother was having issues after contracting shingles in her eye and this was a follow up appointment after 6 weeks.

The Consultant began the appointment by asking if Mum had been to the optician's. He examined her eyes, announced she had cataracts in both eyes and completed a referral form. After asking specifically about shingles, he said we would tackle the cataracts first.

We left the appointment feeling confused and I have the disquieting feeling he wasn't aware why we were there.

Dear Ospreypq53

I am so sorry this occurred and understand why you left your appointment confused about your Mum's eye needs.

Would you be so kind as to email patientexperience@belfasttrust.hscni.net

this is a confidential email address and let me know your Mum's name and date of birth or her Health Care Number I wish to investigate this negative experience in detail and would like to be able to provide feedback to your Mum and yourself.

My apologies again for your poor experience.

Mary

Ophthalmology Service Manager.
