About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

I came into qe a&e between 2-3pm. After a while I was triaged and told to wait in the waiting area. After another long wait I was called in again for bloods and ecg. The 2 nurses who triaged me were not very nice or kind just dome their jobs! I was then told to go back to the waiting room again, which by this time was pretty full. At 11pm a doctor came and told me I was staying but there were no beds. I had to sit in the waiting area all night with no warning this may be the case! A nurse came to me to do another ecg and was so rough with me, she then got angry when she realised I'd already had an ecg done previously to which I explained my heart rate was high. She told me the ecg should have been done at 12 it was now 2am! In the morning I can say only one nurse actually bothered with me and looked after me. She went above & beyond. I had the worst a&e experience of my life. I was finally discharged 24hrs later and at 5pm I received a phone call to ask where I was as a bed was available to me, but I'd already been discharged.

Dear Patient

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham - apologies for the slightly delayed response. We are really sorry to hear that there were so many issues with your visit to the Emergency Department - in particular long waits to be seen, a long wait overnight in the waiting area without a bed and the attitude of nursing staff.

We are keen to listen to your concerns in more detail and to try to help if there are any outstanding issues or things we can learn from. If you are happy to do this and haven't already please make contact with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) to provide your details. They can be contacted by phone 0121 424 0808, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk, or by contact form at https://www.uhb.nhs.uk/forms/contact-complaint-concern

Best wishes
