When I was first referred to this Detox, I didn't want to come as I didn't want to be around strangers. I wanted to go via the hospital and be on my own. However, within hours upon arrival, I felt like I was at home. I am so glad that I did because I don't think my recovery journey would of been the same. I don't think it would have worked as I got a lot of support here with different groups and meditation. Along with support from peers who understand what your going through. It was nice to know that I was not alone and had others to relate too. It is a shared experience.
Upon arrival to the Dame Carol Detox, I was feeling anxious, scared and nervous. The staff made me feel so completely at ease, when I arrived, they knew my name, they were expecting me and were really welcoming.
The staff are so receptive, understanding and full of advice. They never make you feel that you have done something wrong or you are a bad person. They are non judgemental which is amazing. I was checked into my room, shown around and introduced to all the other residents who were so kind and welcoming who made me feel at home instantly. It was almost like walking into an old bunch of friends; because they had all experienced how I was feeling on arrival, they all made me feel at ease and were really welcoming. In particular, I have really enjoyed the meditation, acupuncture. The groups as a whole. Including the interaction with the staff, as they are constantly checking on you, and supporting you with medication. However, you also engaged in normal conversation with staff and have a laugh too. Along with played games.
I was worried about the food before coming. However, it is all freshly cooked and healthy variety of meals.
I can't think of anything else that I have wanted that not been able to get. I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking recovery as it has saved my life.
