I called 111 over Easter as I had a severe sore throat with symptoms getting worse. I've had tonsillitis many times in the past and was pretty sure I had tonsillitis this time and would require antibiotics. The call handler when I got through was very good but I didn't get to speak with a clinician. When the call handler held the call to speak to the clinician initially they were advised to tell me to go to a pharmacy. When I queried if the pharmacy could prescribe antibiotics if required I was assured they could. My call was before 7am and the nearest pharmacy would open at 10am.
I went to the pharmacy for it opening only to be advised that they couldn't help and the pharmacist could not prescribe antibiotics! They were confused as to why 111 would direct me to a pharmacy for this issue as they would have no knowledge of the scope of prescribing capability of the pharmacist on duty!
Feeling extremely frustrated and unwell and still have had no clinical support.
