"Pregnancy, labour and childbirth"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Delivery Suite Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C2 Maternity care Northern Health & Social Care Trust / Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service (The Lotus Team)

(as the patient),

Throughout the journey, I was seen by the lotus team. I couldn't fault the lotus team and, in particular, my midwife, Caitlin. She made our experience the best it could be with it being our first baby.

Our experience was positive until the end of the pregnancy when having to travel back and forward to Antrim instead of the maternity ward being in Causeway.

I travelled to Antrim, for them to confirm my waters had broke and send me home. I returned the next morning, 24hrs later with strong contractions and vomiting. The labour process was very prolonged, possibly unnecessarily. My waters had broke for 45hrs before my baby was actually born as result of emergency c section. Both myself and my newborn baby ended up with an infection and spent days in hospital after birth. My newborn's infection wasn't recognised until days later, even though I was receiving IV antibiotics.

I can't however fault how I was personally treated by the staff in Antrim hospital after I gave birth. I will however say the day staff were a lot more helpful than those at night.

Overall, my experience with lotus was second to none and my experience in Antrim could have been better, however with it being my first baby I have nothing to compare it to.

Dear attendanthd45,

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your little one. Thank you for your feedback regarding the Lotus Team, I am delighted to hear about your positive experience with Caitlin and the team and we will pass on your feedback as midwives value this feedback immensely.

Safety of mothers and their babies are paramount to us and this is the reason for the decision to rearrange our services. Moving forward, the Causeway Maternity Hub will be a vibrant environment providing extended pregnancy and early parenting services. These include a maternity care clinic for scheduled ambulatory care, specialist infant feeding clinics, yoga classes and hypnobirthing as well as extended obstetric antenatal clinics to enhance local accessibility for women with complex pregnancies.

We have exciting plans within the Trust to transform our maternity services so more women have the opportunity to receive their care within small teams of midwives throughout pregnancy, birth and the early parenting period. The Lotus team are the leading the way as the first continuity team with more teams to follow.

Your valuable feedback highlights the importance of continuity of midwifery carer so I thank you again attendanthd45,

Best Wishes,

Rachel Chakravarti

Dear attendanthd45,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Thankyou for taking time out of your busy day to provide feedback to us. We are always pleased to receive feedback as this informs us in our decisions as we continually strive to improve our services.

I am pleased to hear that you describe a positive experience throughout your pregnancy until the end when care could have been better. Given the nature of the Care Opinion platform, I am unable to provide a detailed, personal response to some of the care that you have described. If you felt that it would be of benefit to you, I would be keen for you to contact me so that we could discuss your care further.

My contact details are below.

Thankyou once again for taking the time to complete a response.

Wishing you all the best,

Regards
