"I am so angry and frustrated"

About: Lakeview Hospital / Learning disability

(as a parent/guardian),

I had been waiting for over 2 years for a social worker to review my disabled son but his social worker was on constant sick leave, so they assigned a duty social worker to talk to me.

I had to explain my son’s life story to her then she asked what help I needed. I said I needed referrals for a few different things she said that was fine.

I waited another 2 years only to be told she had left for another job and didn't refer my son for nothing and had actually signed him off of disability learning completely.

I was sitting waiting for all these referrals knowing they would take a few years before he would be seen only to be told nothing had been done and he was no longer affiliated with them at all.

I was heartbroken because I have sat here with no help or support for over 4 years with a son with behaviour issues with self harm and violent tendencies while I have other children in the house. I was asking for help the day the duty social worker attended to talk to me for this to happen.

I am so angry and frustrated that I had waited nearly 3 years, fighting to get him the help to begin with only to have to go through it all again.

Dear Shazmac, thank you for taking the time to use Care Opinion to share your frustration in not being able to access support from Social Services. I wish to apologise for the lack of communication and follow up. It's not clear from your post if your son is a child or an adult. In any event, I would encourage you to contact ALD Community Services - telephone 028 71864363 so that we can discuss your situation and offer support or signpost you to where you can avail of support.

Thank you
