"Daughter trying to see a GP."

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a parent/guardian),

It has took several days of trying to get through to my GP surgery, finally got through and got my daughter a phone appointment. I am not sure this was even with a GP. My daughter has been ill over 3 weeks now, the person who called did not offer to see my daughter but instead said it is viral, end of, then told my daughter she had to go as they had patients to see. My daughter said I am a patient too, but got nowhere with the member of staff on phone. My daughter is so unwell now in tears as nothing is helping her. I feel our system is just failing people .

Dear Sands06,

Thank you for sharing your daughter's experience of her GP.

I am sorry to hear of the trouble your daughter had getting through for an appointment with the GP, and that her illness was deemed to be viral and no further conversation had about this. I am disappointed to hear that the GP said they had to go to see patients - you are absolutely right, your daughter is also their patient and this is not the service we would expect to see being delivered.

GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about the service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. Can I please invite you to contact the Practice Manager if you would like a direct response about the service? You can also contact Primary Care Patient Affairs for advice, I have included their contact details.

I hope she feels better soon,

Kind Regards,

Jenni
