"You are a credit to your professions"

About: Oncology / Radiotherapy

(as a service user),

I required radiotherapy due to having been diagnosed with locally advanced prostate cancer. Over thirty seven sessions I’ve experienced the radiotherapy department in many of its aspects.

I can only comment that the staff, from the patient facing reception team to all the radiographers; senior staff, junior staff and students that they made my experience incredibly positive.

Throughout I was treated with courtesy, respect and compassion. That Bob and Jackie knew my name on day 2 is unbelievable given the footfall and that simple detail was such a personal touch that undoubtedly made me feel welcome and being recognised in such a busy department is nothing short of remarkable. I never ever felt that I was a number. 10/10

On my enquiring about information regarding the radiotherapy process I had the lucky experience to meet Kirsty who took the time and care to explain clearly what was happening during the set up process and the treatment.  Likewise radiographers were pleased to provide information when I asked. 10/10

Like Kirsty all the radiographers get to know and recognise patients and invariably have a smile, a greeting or a personal question about normal life. This is a fantastic behavioural feature of this department. 10/10

I applaud with heartfelt pleasure: the professionalism; the humanity; the adaptability-when things went wrong; the discretion; the positive atmosphere and the care shown to me making a difficult journey as easy as it could be.

Ninewells Radiotherapy, you are a credit to your professions, to Ninewells hospital, to the NHS. and to yourselves.

Thank you from a very grateful patient.

Ps the parking needs sorted!

Dear Dark blue, thank you very much for taking the time to feedback your positive experience of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob, one of the Support workers (you mention) who welcomed you into our department. I am loving the 10/10 marks for the varying aspects of what our staff put into the professional and compassionate manner in which you were treated, the quality of information provided to you and the personal interest that contributed to your overall experience. Yes, as you say, things can go wrong, especially with the complexity and sensitivity of our treatment units, but with a little communication and organisational skills, we do hope to minimise any inconvenience for our patients. The car parking does indeed need sorting and our Head of Therapeutic Radiography continues to take this issue to departmental meetings.

I thank you for your recognition and kind words which have already been passed on to everyone in our department. On behalf of everyone, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob

No worries Bob. All my words were what I experienced. I told you I’d written something and I’m pleased that you let the Department know.

All the best to you, and I’ll buy you a pint if I bump into you. Cheers 0010.
