"It would be good to have a quiet room waiting area"

About: Victoria Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I would like to give a suggestion for Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. I think it would be good to have a quiet room waiting area for women who do not want to sit in the main waiting room. Sitting in the waiting room with women chatting about baby names and how far along they were was extremely upsetting, and made the already impossible decision to have an abortion much harder. There are many situations where women might prefer a quiet room to wait in, so I think this would benefit more than women who are in for abortion. Thanks.

Dear Suggestion 123,

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you were not offered a quiet waiting area while waiting for your appointment. There is a quiet area where patients can wait before and after their ultrasound scan. I am so sorry that this was not offered to you and that it had a negative impact on your experience within our service. I will personally ensure that staff receive feedback on your experience to ensure patients, in similar circumstances, are offered this space as an alternative going forward. If you would like to discuss further please get in touch with myself, Claire Massey, Clinical Nurse Manager for Gynaecology at claire.massey@nhs.scot
